Planning a wedding is work enough without having to worry about keeping up with all the new trends that seem to be constantly popping up. There are new “in” colours, and modern food trends, not to mention the latest and greatest in cocktail beverages!

Of course, wedding dresses are no different. Every year, we see new looks, new details, even new shades of white! With so much changing so constantly, how can you sift through all the noise and find the few important trends in 2010 wedding dresses? Maybe we can help:

• Trend #1 – Ruffles are hot this year. Very hot! So put everything else you've heard aside and make sure to check out some dresses that offer some sort of ruffling.

  You'll find dresses with horizontal tiers, with vertical ruffles, or a little ruffling on one of the edges, be it neckline, hemline, or sleeve. You'll also see ruffles on veils and jackets.

  Tip: if you are short and full figured, stay away from horizontal tiers; they'll make you look shorter and wider. If in doubt, choose a style with a little ruffle on the neckline but not the hemline. A ruffle on the hemline will, again, make you look shorter.

• Trend #2 – Crystal beading will be very popular this year too. Thanks to many years of plain styles, designers have opted to add a little pizzaz to the line up with some embellishments.

  Tip: petite brides beware to not overdo this trend. Too much beading will overpower your small frame.

• Trend #3 – Folded, gathered, or pleated skirts will be very big this year, literally and figuratively. Again, the last few season's of plain skirts have opened up a stream of more interesting looks. Full bodied fabrics like satin and taffeta will pave the way for the once plain skirt to be folded, gathered, tucked and pleated to create drama and interest in the gown.

  Tip: Bigger dresses with heavier fabrics equal weighty dresses. Try the dress on for quite a while before deciding. You have to make sure you can handle all the fabric and weight for the duration of the day.

Trends come and go but if you want to be a cutting edge bride with a gown that is totally in, keep in mind that you don't have to go all into the trend. Pick aspects of it and apply it to a style that suits you best. This way, you have a dress that's just right for you with a hint of what a 2010 wedding dress is all about!

A bride's hairstyle on her wedding day is as important to her as her wedding dress. It represents the culmination of months of planning and visualizing and it has to be just right to make her dream come true.

When it comes to bridal hairstyles, very little changes from one season to another but with all things in fashion, it is the subtle changes that make each look hot for each new season. Basically all bridal hair styles stem from the same basics and branch out to suit the individual client.

The basic hairstyles most stylists work with when it comes to weddings are:

• The bun – a tightly pulled back look that leaves little or no loose locks around the face
• The up do – a variation of the bun. It becomes more ornate and its placement can be an arrangement of hair at the top of the head or the back. It can be tightly and neatly arranged or it can present itself as a messy up do where lots of loose locks around the face and neck are present.

• The half up do – is a variation of the up do where only the front part of the hair is lifted off the face and arranged at the top of the head. The back of the hair remains to fall loose along the shoulders.
• The French twist – a tightly pulled vertical or horizontal twist entire head of hair. It can be secured at the back of the head or along the sides extending back from the ears.
• The chignon – a tightly pulled variation of the bun that ends up in a collection of knots arranged at the nape of the neck
• The long wavy curls – here the hair is left to hang in loose curls in a soft, romantic yet sexy look.

Using this list as a launching pad for your particular style will help both you and your stylist come up with just the right look for you. Remember, just as no two heads are created equal, no two hairstyles are either. Just because something looks great on paper, it doesn't mean it will translate into a great style for you. Take some time to experiment and you won't be disappointed!

Cupcakes are cute, but to freshen up the dessert, just add toppers. The bride made these by cutting out bird shapes from pretty, patterned paper, attaching them to toothpicks, then sticking one in each cupcake.

Lauren and Scott were married at Old Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York on August 1st; a reception followed at Liberty House in Jersey City, New Jersey. Lauren described her wedding style as “modern with a vintage twist.”

“We made the save-the-dates ourselves. We took handmade save-the-date signs into a vintage photo booth and held up ‘Save the date 8/1/09.’ The theme progressed from there.”

Minna at Minna Designs was so kind to coordinate this post between Lauren and little white book. Her beautiful paper goods were woven throughout Lauren and Scott’s wedding from the invitations, to the programs, to the menu cards, all full of fuchsia flourishes and modern vintage detailing.

Lauren’s favorite moment of the night was the sparkler exit. “Having all of our friends and family together in one place, sending us off with happiness was so meaningful. As we ran through the line, we looked out onto the Manhattan skyline, facing where Scott and I were starting our life together. It was such a magical way to end our wedding day!” Congratulations Lauren and Scott! And a big, big thank you to Minna of Minna Designs and Anne Constance of Anne Constance Photography.

So I’m not usually a fan of spraypainted flowers, but these gold berries won me over. They’re a perfect match to the bouquet wrap and coordinate with the pearl brooches so well.
